Choosing a boat mattress:

A berth in the bow, a bed along the hull or a bench seat that turns into a bed: on board, almost every bed has its own shape. This guide tells you which shape you have, how to measure it and what to look out for.

AWhich berth do you have?
- Boat mattress port: the piece on the left-hand side when you look forward, towards the bow.
- Boat mattress starboard: the piece on the right-hand side.
- Two-part trapezium: a V-berth in the bow, in two mirror-image halves.
- A curved hull or an unusual shape: choose ‘Mattress in a special shape’ and send a photo.
BHow to measure: A, B, C and D
Measure each piece separately, at the height where the top of the mattress will sit: the hull is often angled.
- A: the straight side, from the point at the front to the back.
- B: the width at the bottom, at the back (for a two-part trapezium: the total width of both parts).
- C: the outer side, from the bottom corner to the bend.
- D: the angled side, from the bend to the point.
CMoisture on board
The air on board is damp and a boat sometimes sits idle for weeks. General tips:
- Air the cabin when you’re on board, and stand the mattress upright now and then.
- Take wet clothes and towels off the boat when you leave it.
DThickness and comfort
Check how much space there is above the berth: under a deck it’s often not much.
For each model you choose from these thicknesses: Sleepergo 18 or 21 cm, Lord 15 to 23 cm, Supreme 21 or 23 cm, Elite Visco One 21 or 23 cm.

Question 01What is the difference between port and starboard?
Port is on the left when you look forward, towards the bow; starboard is on the right. For a boat mattress it tells you which side the piece goes on.
